Encryption & account security
Device, email, and account encryption with sensible recovery built in — so a lost laptop isn't a disaster.
Estimates are typical residential ranges and assume our standard hourly rate. Because we bill hourly, the final cost depends on how long the job actually takes — it can run higher. A business rate or any active discount may change your price. You'll always get a real quote after diagnosis.
Encryption is one of those things everyone agrees they should have, but almost nobody sets up correctly. We turn it on, generate recovery keys, store them somewhere you'll actually find them, and audit your accounts for the weak spots that real attackers look for.
Device encryption (FileVault on Mac, BitLocker on Windows) makes the data on your drive unreadable to anyone without the password or recovery key. Account security goes further — two-factor authentication, a password manager, and a recovery plan you can find when you need it.
What's included
- Full-disk encryption (FileVault / BitLocker) with recovery keys saved safely
- Password manager setup — one strong password, the rest generated
- Two-factor authentication on email, banking, and major accounts
- Email and account audit (breach exposure, weak reuses)
- Secure backup of recovery codes you won't lose
Common scenarios
Lost or stolen laptop
If your drive was encrypted before it was lost, the data is unreadable. If not, anyone who plugs it in can read everything. We turn it on the right way.
Just got phished
We help rotate credentials, lock down accounts, and harden the ones that got reused so it doesn't happen again.
Sensitive work files
Medical, legal, financial, or proprietary data. We set up encryption that meets your obligations — not just defaults.
Software vs. hardware-backed encryption
Software encryption
FileVault or BitLocker — built into every modern OS. Free, fine for almost everyone.
Hardware-backed
Self-encrypting drive (SED) or YubiKey-protected key. Required for some compliance regimes (HIPAA, certain finance and legal work).
Common questions
Will I get locked out of my own stuff?+
Not if it's set up right. Recovery keys live in two places you'll always be able to reach. We test the recovery before we leave.
Do I need a password manager?+
Yes. Reused passwords are how most accounts get compromised. The manager is the single biggest security upgrade you can make.
What customers say
“David was great and professional, and solved both my computer and printer problems.”
“I was honestly skeptical going in, but David proved me wrong. He diagnosed the problem fast, fixed everything properly, and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. Everything was explained clearly and the pricing was fair for the results. Easily one of the best tech service experiences I've had.”
“I was in need of help and they delivered! Brian showed up the same day and found the issue right away. He was knowledgeable and helped me with a solution.”
